2008 Campaign Results
5 May 2008
Food prices are increasing all over the world causing concern and even unrest in many nations.
The daily headlines referring to a ‘Global Food Crisis” in our current news emphasizes the need to help our youth know about their world and to provide a means for them to help the hungry. Through the Rice Raiser, students awareness of hunger is increasing. As they join forces, they are able to experience the power of changing hunger for many people. In some cases the food provides relief and other times the funds help with sustainability. Not only are they giving food, but the gift of hope as well.
The Rice Raiser Campaign was full of activity and was a newsworthy event in several communities.
From bottle drives to relay games, from hunger fasts to rice krispie sales and shopping center displays students enthusiastically learned about, raised awareness and encouraged others to help change hunger. The rice piled up in school hallways, food bank bins and loaned Canada Post cages. Lots of in-school class competitions kept the excitement going and the food rolling in! Recipient food banks are grateful for this nutritious food!
Fantastic results for this third Rice Raiser include:
over $62,000 !
(so far…donations are still coming in)
Food banks in 11communities received rice and canned food for their food banks! Over 30 schools and community groups took part raising over $62,000 worth of food and funds. Some of the money will be multiplied 3 and 4 times through matching Canadian International Develoopment Agency (CIDA) grants!
There are still some schools and other groups planning a Rice Raiser event during the remainder of the year. Our Global Projects will continue through Dec. 08. New Global Projects will be announced in the fall for our 2009 Campaign.
Ukraine
As a result of your giving for the next 5 months all the children in the orphanage will have all their meals provided. This is in addition to the $1,000 we gave last fall in our pre-campaign Pantry Stocking Project..
Kenya

Sierra Leone
Nutritious school lunches are being provided for 300 children for 10 months! As well, seeds have been purchased for their school garden. With the CIDA $3 – $1 matches, 10 people were provided with micro-loans of $50 plus 9 women received literacy training!
Bangladesh
Funds for this project ($6,000) will be multiplied by a CIDA $4-$1 matching grant: Farmers in Bangladesh will be helped with agricultural micro-enterprises: 375 families receive a goat. 4,540 families receive vegetable seeds for this year and next year’s planting. Plus 4,540 families receive fruit trees.
