HAVE A RICE DAY on World Food Day
13 October 2009
October 16th is World Food Day and the launch of the new HAVE A RICE DAY Movement
Global hunger is now a greater problem than ever before because of the Global Food Crisis and the Global Economic Crisis. There are now over 1 billion people who struggle with hunger in our world today. World Food Day is a time to think about the food we grow and consume while remembering those who do not have enough.
HAVE A RICE DAY is an initiative of Hunger Response International and it is a great way to help us remember the hungry since there are seven HAVE A RICE DAYs each year. The concept is simple:
1) Purchase and proudly wear a HAVE A RICE DAY button for $5
2) Substitute one of your regular meals that day for a simple bowl of rice to identify with those who do not have the assurance of even that much food.
The seven HAVE A RICE DAYs are:
October 16 – World Food Day
November 20 – Universal Child’s Day
December 12 – International Human Rights Day
March 22 – World Water Day
April 7 – World Health Day
May 15 – International Day of the Family
August 19 – World Humanitarian Day
