A Spark of Caring Can Ignite Compassion’s Flame
18 February 2010
No matter what age, one person can inspire many when passionately moved to do something good and they receive encouragment and support.
Here is another wonderful story of how one grade five student ignited compassion in his school to raise funds for people in Haiti after the earthquake. This action kickstarted the Rice Raiser Campaign which the school continues thier involvement in.
In his own words, Cameron Mann shares:
After seeing photos in the news and talking to my parents about the tragedy that happened in Haiti, I decided to do something to help. I talked to Mr. Corbett, my principal, about doing something to raise money for Haiti. He talked to Ms. Pellaers, my classroom teacher, and from there I did a presentation to my Grade 5 class. We thougth of many ideas to raise money and came up with the idea of having a bake sale and accepting cash donations. A couple of days later, each grade 5 student brought in 20 baking items. We sold most of the items the first day and had another sale the next day to sell the extras. There were still a few items left after the second sale so we donated them to Winnipeg Harvest. As a result, we raised $1,262.86!Thank you,
Cameron Mann
