Join us at Save-On-Foods Abbotsford on Friday, July 30 and buy a bag of rice from our booth to donate to the Abbotford Food bank and you can enter your name in our draw.
Don’t live in Abbotsford? No problem. Just send the money along with your name, address, telephone number and email address before September 15th and we’ll enter your name. You can also donate online.
The food will stay local, but the money will go global to help change hunger in our 2010 Rice Raiser Campaign Global Projects. (see Projects) AND best of all, $2 from each bag will be matched!

Hunger Response International invited tournament attendees to help tackle hunger on July 24/25.
It was an exciting event with lots of great rugby sevens playing!
People came internationally to participate in this second mid-summer tournament as well as teams from the USA and other provinces in Canada.
Hunger Response International was pround to be there challenging people to help change hunger through the $3 SUMMER TIME HUNGER CHALLENGE. There was also a rice guessing game, and a chance to win an autographed rugby ball signed by international teams from Fiji and South Africa along with the Maple Leafs and Saskatchewan Howlers from Canada. In addition, silent auction bids were taken for a world famous Rugby 7’s player, Waisale Serevi autographed a rugby ball! Rugby balls were generously dontated by SportsCheck, Abbotsford.
Other sponsors included Save-On-Foods – Rice and prize of a barbecue for the $3 SUMMERTIIME HUNGER CHALLENGE as well as tshirts for Hunger Response International Volunteers.
Barton/Hub Insurance provided for the tent for our booth that helped save us from the hot sunshine.
Abbotsford Food Bank loaned their van for collecting the rice that was donted by fantasic, caring tournament participants.
On the Rocks Ice Distribution Ltd. donated 50% of the proceeds from their sno-cone booth to help us help the hungry!

The response was great as people bought a bag of rice for $3 to give to the hungry locally through the Abbotsford Food Bank. $2 from each bag went to the 2010 Rice Raiser Campaign global projects in Burundi, Guatemala, India and Uganda. The money was matched at a rate of $3 to $1 by the Canadian International Development Agency making each donated bag of rice worth $11 in value to feed the hungry locally and globally!
